Happy Monday everyone I hope your weekend was fun ! As we get into 2018, I’m sure there will be weddings for some of us, either in our family or close friends. For crafters looking to make a wedding layout, Jeanette has designed this page with a clean, elegant feel that will surely inspire you.

Brown backgrounds might not be a colour choice for most of us however this cork paper design matches the photo really well giving a warm, organic feel to the layout. Tags that come in a separate paper sheet or embellishment packs make scrapping so easy for you to add to the layouts.

Hello everyone, welcome back, it’s Aida here !
Mixed media in Scrapbooking is a very interesting form of memory keeping. It came about as painting mediums crossed over into Paper Crafting, became cheaper, easily available and Crafters wanted to expand their style to make a different sort of layout. What is also exciting : you can make it a grungy with tons of texture as you like, or keep to the clean and simple style !
Look at the photo above and you can see there are lots of mediums from Acrylic paints, to stamping inks, crayons, sprays and dimensional pastes. The next time you come into Made With Love, head for the Mediums section and you can see the varieties of products available. Can you learn to use them on your own ? Yes you can certainly. But what IF after buying them, you realise you need to find time to experiment, sometimes going the long round-about way, throwing away pieces that don’t look right or just not getting the effect you want.
There are those who come in and show us You Tube videos of products or techniques and like us to explain the “hows and whys” which often puts us into a dilemma. We want to help but the simple truth about Mixed Media is : it cannot be condensed into a “ten minutes or less” explanation especially when a crafter is new to mediums and cannot visualise the methods or products. While You Tube videos are useful for ideas, you must know the artists are experienced and tend to skip basic steps as they expect the watcher to have some knowledge of the product application. These might include how much water to add to the mediums (if any), the brush to use, how the way you paint on the canvas affects the outcome and most important of all, colour mixing. One more fact to note, You Tube crafters might use products unavailable in Singapore or worse, discontinued, old products, out dated techniques that have been replaced by better quality, new mediums.
In Singapore, how would you know this if there’s no one to help you ?

Made With Love has always focussed on educating crafters. The Mixed Media Workshop has at its core value a strong foundation in handling Mediums and how to use them effectively in techniques. You will learn what the different Paints are, Ombre and Watercolour effects, Stamping Basics, Embossing using both the Heat Tool and Folders, Dimensional pastes, colour crayons, waxes and the *NEW* Glitter Inks. All these hands-on elements are then combined into a project you take home as a reference.
Products and supplies are provided for this workshop, you bring just Beacons 3 in 1 Glue and Foam Dots.

The workshop will help you move forward on other projects such as the ones below :
This is a Birthday Tag for a friend.

The Marbling technique on the Canvas is a wonderful, trendy background to this layout page.

Stencilling and techniques on soft washes add a dreamy atmosphere to this Canvas keepsake.

I hope this post will clarify a few questions about the Mixed Media workshop. The fee is $55 for 3 hours of fun, useful hands-on learning at de-mystifying the mediums and a pretty project to take home. As an experienced crafter with tons of exposure to mediums, there’s so much I can share !
For information about this and other workshops, Made With Love is on
Tel : 67337630
B2-08, 313 Somerset, Orchard Road.
As always, workshop samples are on display in the store.

Distress Stains with Dorcas !

February 20 , 2017

Good Monday Crafties !
If you’ve been to Made With Love and seen our large range of Distress Stains and Sprays, you might’ve wondered how they are used. The colours are the same formulation and are packaged differently as some crafters prefer the sponge applicator top while others want the sprays. No matter which you choose, the liquid colours are clear and transparent. Dorcas has used the Stains to create a watercolour backgrounds for her Brush Lettering.

All you need to do for this effect is to dab the sponge tops of the Distress Stains on a small plastic sheet, spritz a little water and gently swipe your watercolour paper on it. Easy-peasy right ? Try it !
Dorcas posts all her Lettering work on Instagram under Volaralparaiso.
Be sure to visit her feed !
See you next week, Aida

Hello everyone !
It’s Aida here and many of you might not know it, but I am also the Design Team Coordinator and look after the fabulously talented Designers who create the many projects you see around the store. Stacy Koo and myself are Educators as well and helm the Made With Love workshops. The other members of the team we are lucky to have are :
Goh Daolin
Dorcas Hei
Jelissa Mei
Marina Johan
Jeanette Lee
**Be sure to check out their Blogs and Instagrams !**

Over the years we’ve seen changes in Scrapbook styles, amazing new products that have evolved, the glory days of some brands and sadly, the disappearance of many smaller manufacturers, the surprising popularity of planners and die-cutting systems. Changes sometimes have been too fast for crafters with many feeling confused and overwhelmed, unable to sort out their needs over wants.
If you are a crafter who feels left behind or bewildered by the many products, and tortally confused by crafting You Tube videos, this is where I suggest workshops can help.
1) Are scrapbook or brush calligraphy workshops useful ?
Jeanette says : yes they are useful. More so for brush calligraphy since there is a greater demand for it now as it is in trend. Basic techniques taught especially for people who are starting out. Introducing new techniques so that students can see the versatility of tools used etc and especially when I am being taught something different from what I usually do on my own like book binding, canvas , albums
Stacy says : yes. Every workshop comprises of a skill set or experience that the instructors share with the participants. The instructors have came up with the projects and have also experience dealing with the project. This is a huge factor that we can learn from. Human interaction also helps to encourage the learning process.
Jelissa says : Definitely! If I hadn’t taken a proper beginner’s class, I’ll be floundering. Subsequent more advanced classes are great for adding products and techniques to my repertoire.
2) What do you feel a good workshop should have ?
Dorcas says : a good workshop should have sufficient materials that allow the students to continue practicing their New skills after attending the workshop, this applies to brush workshop.
Daolin says : clear objectives and materials for future references. It should reasonably match the expectations of those who attend it so expectations of what is being taught and the depth and prerequisites should be apparent.
Jelissa says : Theory and the practical aspects should be covered – eg. why a technique is used or when putting together a layout, how should the elements be placed. Practical would be first demonstration of the technique followed by guiding the students to do on their own. A decent range of products should be introduced (and marketed) so that customers know what their choices are and this improves on their product knowledge as well.
3) Have workshops you have taken been useful ?
Daolin says : Yes! Having someone talk to you over the screen even (for online content) or in-class interaction is a whole ocean away from trying to understand concepts over books or pictorial instruction. Many aspects are also very tactile in nature so it matters especially when projects or techniques deal with issue of layering or texture.
Marina says : My first scrapbooking class was quite basic. It was clear that it was for beginners and I learned to have an eye for layering, little tips here and there as we go along. It might not be much but as a beginner I learned a lot of things. I’ve also been to a book binding class. The teacher was very clear and I got to bring home an instruction sheet and a kit to bring home and redo. Till this day, I’m still making my own books.
4) Any other points ?
As Educators based in the store, both Stacy and I often come across You Tube learners. There’s nothing wrong with watching You Tube craft videos ….. BUT (there’s always a but !) keep in mind these points : the products used might not be available in Singapore and there’s no clue to alternative supplies, the products and techniques may be out-dated, the videos tend to assume you already KNOW the basics and skip some steps thereby creating confusion. It takes you longer to finish a project because without any help, learning solo means wasting time and products through simple mistakes. By this I mean patterned paper being wasted, cut away because of not knowing how to see the design or the patterns effectively ….. Scrappers buying 20 sheets of papers when they need 4 at the most.
So what are the positives ? Learning in a workshop is just plain FUN !! You get to meet other Scrappers, start friendships based on a shared interest, find out new ways to use your supplies, explore products you would never think of using ! It’s really inspiring bouncing ideas off the Instructors or fellow workshop-mates. Crafting teaches you to be open to exploration, that mistakes really won’t kill you *LOL*.
As Educators we want YOU to learn, we want to teach new stuff, we want you to be able to move forward, create happily and successfully.
Every first week of the month, a new Workshop schedule is loaded
on to Made With Love’s Facebook : HERE
You will find descriptions, photo sneaks and prices of each workshop.
Once you’ve decided on the workshop and date, all you need to do is
call 6733 7630 to book your place.
I hope you enjoyed this post and it has given you some thought. Have a wonderful, creative, inspiring 2017 !! Cheers, Aida.

Hello Crafters !!
Mixed Media is on every paper crafter’s agenda and it’s the one skill many are giving a go to see if they want to explore more of it. There is no shortage of supplies you can use and what makes this so interesting is the lack of rules : long as the piece has a mix paper, canvas or fabric and wet mediums like paints, gels, crayons, sprays and stains.
Daolin worked on a 12 x 12 Prima Watercolour Panel and we love how the panel has plenty of white space yet the drama of the colours catch your attention. It’s not overly complicated and definitely doable for anyone who is starting on mixed media.
